The Feast Of Our Lady Of Good Health

 As our church is dedicated to Our Lady of Good Health, the village celebrates the holy feast on 8^th September, every year for ten days. It usually falls on the Sunday that precedes or succeeds the 8^th September. The festivity  starts with an impressive flag hoisting ceremony marking the beginning of the season followed by Novena to Our Lady. The responsibility is shared among the 'Anbiyams'. Each day of the Novena is celebrated in a meaningful and prayerful way.

     The other salient part of this feast is the First Holy Communion and the Holy Confirmation. There will be a distribution of holy porridge to the people in the afternoon too. At about 4 O'clock in the evening of the feast Sunday, the car procession for Our Lady of Good Health begins. Our Lady visits the entire village. The car procession is accompanied by the elders and the youngsters. It is a grace filled occasion that we can not forego it. The festival ends with the lowering of the flag on the 10^th (feast Sunday) day at 6 pm.

     We need to add something here. As a part of preparation for the feast, there will be cultural programme in the evenings. Each day is celebrated by different groups namely, the Youth group, 'Anbiyam', School teachers and students, the teachers and students of Catechism, Legion of Mary and the NRIs live in the Gulf Countries. The 10 days including the day of festival is gift to each one of us. Various competitions are conducted by the Youth group or the Catechism group or the 'Anbiyam'.

      As we gain proximity to the feast there will be a dance competition organized for the neighbouring villages and colleges widely known as 'ThillanaThillana'.It is one of the well known cultural competitions in kanyakumari district.It is participated only  by the youth groups from the neighbourhood villages, towns and colleges as well. Attractive prizes are given away for the winners. On the evening of the feast there will be an orchestra conducted by the parish that is participated by well known singers. It is a day that we can not miss, for we also get guests so our joy is doubled.
